Real Sociedad regains sole possession of lead in Spain

MADRID (AP) – Real Sociedad broke a four-way tie for the Spanish league with a 2-0 win at Celta Vigo on Thursday.

Alexander Isak and Aritz Elustondo scored goals in the second half to put the Basque Country club back on top after 11 matches. They are three points ahead of Real Madrid, Sevilla and Real Betis.

Madrid and Sevilla, who drew on Wednesday, have one game less. Betis, after a win against Valencia, have the same 11 points as Sociedad. Madrid were held by Osasuna at home and Sevilla drew at Mallorca.

The victory extended Sociedad’s unbeaten streak to 10 consecutive league games, with seven wins and three draws, including 2-2 against defending champions Atlético Madrid last Sunday.

Sociedad have not lost in 13 consecutive matches in all competitions, with their only loss coming in the league’s opening game against Barcelona at the Camp Nou stadium.

Celta Vigo, who have lost five of their six home games this season, remained in 14th place with 10 points from 11 appearances.

Isak opened the scoring for the visitors at close range in the 54th minute after a video review intervened to reverse an offside appeal. Elustondo added ahead after a corner kick in the 79th.

Atlético can enter the group of teams tied for second with a victory at Levante, who have yet to win this season. The team coached by Diego Simeone have a game in hand compared to Sociedad.

Last-placed Getafe remained the only other side without a win with Levante after conceding an equalizer seven minutes after the second half stoppage in Granada.

Former Getafe striker Jorge Molina scored the late goal for the hosts with a header after a corner kick.

Enes Unal put Getafe in the lead in 36th.

Granada striker Luis Suárez missed a penalty in the 78th.

Granada, who have won only once this season, remained just outside the relegation zone, five points ahead of Getafe.
