Nextil commits to sustainability and efficiency with a new factory in Guatemala


MADRID, July 15, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Nextil Group, one of Europe’s largest textile groups, to open new fabric production facility in Guatemala, a country with a long textile tradition. The plant, with an area of ​​25,000 m2, is expected to come into operation in the first quarter of 2023.

The new factory will be located in a privileged strategic location just 30 minutes from the city of Guatemala, with easy access to two oceans (Atlantic and Pacific) and the Pan-American Highway, offering magnificent connections with virtually every continent. Its geographical location will allow Nextil Group to access the mass production market in competition with Asian suppliers, allowing it to make profitable items currently in deficit, guaranteeing maximum efficiency in logistics and distribution, with preferential rates.

With a global investment of 40 million euros, the new production plant will have 350 local employees and this number will increase as the production pace accelerates. The factory will also train Guatemala university students who wish to get into the textile sector. The Spanish group will maintain social and social responsibility benefits at the same level as the production plants in the EU or United States, comprising a health clinic, a company store with loans, a monthly grocery bag and an employee loan fund.

Efficiency and sustainability

The industrial unit will optimize its cost structure in line with the other factories of the group and will maintain the certifications of origin of its products, thanks to the agreements concluded by this Central American country. Guatemala possesses € 1 certification, under which it can preserve the origin of the goods at the same time Europe and United States, in turn obtaining preferential treatment on entry into these markets. “This was undoubtedly one of the key factors when choosing the location of our new production facility,” said Manuel Martos, the general manager of the company.

Nextil Group will maintain its existing production plants at Spain and the United States for value-added specialties, for the development of new products and for local and commercial logistics. According to the General Manager, “We want to enter a market that is currently inaccessible to us due to the cost structure, while keeping our existing factories for value-added products and the development of new collections in Spain. ”

The industrial group will build a state-of-the-art factory. Faithful to its environmental commitment policy, the new factory of the textile group will implement a plan to maintain a low carbon footprint and will integrate state-of-the-art machines and advanced systems in terms of energy saving, water treatment. rain and resource reuse, among others.

The basic principle of the Greendyes dyeing method will also be applied in this new factory. This dyeing process patented by the group is characterized by low water consumption, the absence of toxic products and execution at room temperature, thus considerably reducing energy consumption.
