Midsummer’s Eve: places to celebrate the night of San Juan on the Costa del Sol in Spain

THE shortest night of the year will once again be punctuated with bonfires, festivities and beach parties across much of the province.

San Juan to Estepona

The west coast city of Malaga has chosen La Rada beach as the star of its Midsummer celebrations where there will be live music with the Estepona Funky Town festival.

San Juan to San Pedro de Alcantara

The beach chosen to celebrate this particular night of San Juan in San Pedro de Alcantara is La Salida beach where there will be live music between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m.

San Juan to Mijas

It is one of the most populated municipalities in the province and its festivities will take place in two urban centers: Mijas pueblo and La Cala de Mijas. In Mijas pueblo it will be in the Plaza de la Virgen de la Peña where there will be live music starting at 8:30 p.m.

In La Cala, the party will take place on El Torreon beach, with live music starting at 9:30 p.m.

San Juan to Fuengirola

Castillo Sohail’s traditional ‘White Party’ will begin in the early afternoon and end in the early hours of the following morning.

This year, the city council plans to launch a “clean-up competition” with the aim of raising awareness and minimizing litter on one of the most litter-generating nights of the entire year.

Partygoers can share before/after photos of their beach section and the cleanest groovers will win tickets to Melendi’s next concert at the MareNostrum facilities.

San Juan to Benalmadena

Benalmadena will see bonfires and fireworks on Santa Ana beach on the night of June 23, which also marks the start of the Feria de Arroyo de la Miel.

San Juan to Torremolinos

The New Year’s Eve festivities in Torremolinos will take place over two days with live music and other activities scheduled on La Carihuela beach, specifically in the area around Plaza del Remo.

San Juan to Rincon de la Victoria

There will be live music from 10 p.m. until the wee hours of the morning and also fireworks, among other activities.

The fireworks are scheduled at midnight as in the majority of municipalities in Malaga.

San Juan to Torre del Mar

The coastal town of Vélez Málaga is another place where the night of San Juan is intensely celebrated. A beautiful atmosphere is expected on the beaches of Torre del Mar for a long-awaited celebration after the two-year break due to Covid.

350 kilos of grilled sardine skewers, pure maritime tradition, will be offered to the guests where the traditional “juas” will be burned and where live music will resound almost all night long.

San Juan in the city of Malaga

The capital of the Costa del Sol is also ready to rock n’ roll with most activities scheduled on La Misericordia beach, including dancing, barbecues, music, entertainers and fireworks .
