Gervonta Davis beats Mario Barrios by TKO in the 11th round
Gervonta Davis blocked the landing on her super lightweight jump.
The undefeated two-division champion beat Mario Barrios via TKO in the 11th round to become a tri-division champion, winning the WBA (Regular) welterweight title. Davis’ record is now 25-0.
Barrios led for much of the first and middle rounds of the fight, but the eighth round made things interesting. Davis flattened Barrios with a right hook to score his first knockdown, then got another one seconds later. Barrios managed to stay in the fight, but Davis was the aggressor from there.
Davis knocked down Barrios again midway through the 11th round, this time hitting a punch to the body that left his opponent doubled and on their knees. Barrios stayed in the fight again, but not for long.
Atlanta fans got their money’s worth, with the violence only increasing as the fight went on. Davis had the most important job, so to speak, facing a height disparity of nearly five inches, but his punching power was clearly reflected.
Davis declined to call a specific boxer after the fight, but there is clearly no shortage of options. With potential opponents both lightweight and super lightweight as well as his old weight classes, Davis may just have scored a big PPV the next time he steps into the ring.
