Monkeypox cases continue to rise across the world, with over 200 suspected or confirmed cases reported in 20 countries. A World Health Organization (WHO) official feared there was community transmission, although the global health body said it could be contained if measures were put in place now , reported Reuters.
The Americas and Europe have seen an increase in infections, but cases of Monkeypox have also been reported in Australia and the Middle East.

Ireland confirmed its first case of Monkeypox on Saturday, Reuters reported. The Health Service Executive (HSE) said in a statement that a separate suspected case was also being investigated and test results were awaited.
The Latin American country confirmed two cases on Friday, the Associated Press reported. The Ministry of Health said a man from Buenos Aires who had traveled to Spain had monkeypox and was showing symptoms of a lesion and fever. Later, the government said a suspected case involving a Spanish resident who arrived in Argentina earlier this week had also tested positive. He presented lesions compatible with Monkeypox.
Finland reported its first case of Monkeypox infection in a patient on Friday, Bloomberg cited Helsinki University Hospital. According to the hospital, the patient is now recovering, the source of the infection is known and close contacts have been mapped.
Italy’s health ministry said on Friday the total number of Monkeypox cases in the country had risen to 12, while one was still under surveillance, Reuters reported. Several other cases of Monkeypox have recently been reported in countries outside Africa, where most infections have been detected so far.
The North American country’s public health agency has confirmed ten new cases of Monkeypox in Canada, including the first case in the province of Ontario. The country’s total count stands at 26 cases, with Quebec accounting for 25 infections, Reuters said.
The United States said it had identified nine cases of Monkeypox in seven states, some in people who had no recent international travel history. On Wednesday, the nine cases were confirmed in Massachusetts, Florida, Utah, Washington, California, Virginia and New York, the US Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) said.
